BSC softball snaps losing skid

ORGANGEBURG, S.C. — Bluefield State snapped its 30-game softball losing streak, splitting a pair of decisions on Friday in the Hampton Jordan Classic.

Bluefield State opened its season with a 12-7 loss to Clark Atlanta University, but returned to the diamond and defeated Benedict College 8-5.

Megan Dakins clubbed a bases-clearing double in the seventh to give Bluefield State its first win since 2010. Freshman Mandy Cokeley pitched a complete game to pick up the win.

Lindsey Whited led Bluefield State at the plate, going 7 for 8 in the two games.

Bluefield Staete (1-1) will play three games today, beginning with Brewton Parker College of Georgia, followed by Kentucky State and host school Chaflin.
