New Concord track records set in Ohio

GENEVA, Ohio — The Concord University women’s track and field team broke two school records and Shawnee Carnett improved on her previous NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 800 meters on Saturday at the Division II Team Challenge.

As a team, Concord placed 14th out of 22 teams with a score of 18 points.

Carnett won the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.17, an improvement of more than two seconds over her previous NCAA provisional qualifying time. Carnett’s mark is currently the fourth-fastest in Division II.

Vivian Ruiz qualified for the WVIAC Championships in the event as well after posting a season-best time of 2:29.63. Ruiz also clocked a 5:38.41 mile to place 14th.

Concord’s 4-by-400-meter relay team of Casey Ord, Lydia Powell, Demi Kirk and Carnett just missed the NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:55.80 when the group completed their run in 3:56.11, placing third overall.

In addition to being the fastest relay time in the WVIAC this season, the mark also broke the three-year old indoor 4x400-meter record at Concord of 4:03.33.

Ord broke the Concord 60-meter dash record for the second time this season, running her 60-meter prelim race in 8.08 seconds (13th place). Ord also qualified for the WVIAC Championships in the 200-meter dash when she finished in 17th place (26.59 seconds).

Lydia Powell ran a personal-best time of 1:00.25 in the 400-meter dash to finish 17th. The time is the third-fastest mark in the WVIAC this year.

Concord returns to action Feb. 15-16 at the Virginia Tech Open.
