Charlene Diggs came off the bench and scored 19 points in 31 minutes of action to spark Bluefield State women’s basketball to their fifth WVIAC win of the season, 65-51 over Davis & Elkins Monday night in Ned Shott Gymnasium.
The Lady Blues improve to 7-3 (5-2 WVIAC) on the season and have already matched their win total from last season.
Diggs, who missed the last game due to flu-like symptoms, shot 9 of 16 from the field. Dragana Tomic also played well for the Lady Blues, shooting a near-perfect 6 of 7 from the floor for 14 points.
Tasia Nolan had her third consecutive double-digit scoring effort as she recorded 13 points off the bench going 6 for 9 from the field. Nolan and Mebane led BSC on the boards for the second consecutive game, grabbing eight apiece. Tiffany Moorer led the game with four assists.
Co-WVIAC Player of the Week Jordan Lykes and Alicia Lentz shared scoring honors for the Senators (5-6, 4-3) with 10 points each. Lentz also grabbed a game-high nine boards.
Men’s game: D&E 87, Bluefield State 78
The Bluefield State men dug a 19-point hole in the initial 11 minutes and never fully recovered.
Vincent Rogers scored a game-high 28 points for the Big Blues (0-11) followed by 15 points from freshman Avery Holliday.
The Senators (3-7, 2-5) featured a well-balanced offense as they featured five players with double-digit points.
Devin Miller and Igor Premasunac scored 17 points apiece while D’Quan Lynch scored 14, Shane Brown scored 12 and Ante Cosic came off the bench to score 13.
Bluefield State returns to action Thursday when they host the University of Charleston in a doubleheader. The women’s game tips off at 5:30 p.m.
