BLUEFIELD, Va. — State Police, fire and rescue personnel responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle Sunday evening at about 6:30 p.m., near the Fast Stop on U.S. Route 19/460 west of Bluefield, Va., town limits.

The victim’s identity was not released Sunday night, but Chief Jim Hardy of the Bluefield, Va., Volunteer Fire Department confirmed the accident was “fatal on impact,” for the male pedestrian.

Emergency personnel from the fire department and the Bluefield, Va., Rescue Squad routed traffic to the shoulders of the east and west bound lanes of the highway as they secured the accident scene.

Trooper R.L. Hamilton of the Virginia State Police was at the scene of the accident, and was awaiting the arrival of a State Police accident reconstruction team two hours after the accident occurred, according to Hardy. No other details were available Sunday night.
