Florida school bus crash sends 48 students to hospital

LIVE OAK, Fla. — The driver of a 2002 Chevrolet SUV crashed into the rear end of a full school bus in this north Florida town Wednesday, sending the bus driver and 48 students to a local hospital.

The SUV driver, Brandon J. Cunningham, 18, Live Oak, was seriously injured in the accident. The bus driver received minor injuries. None of the students were hospitalized.

"I was reading a book and then I heard a crash," said Katelyn Pettrey, 8. "I was scared and I wanted my mom."

Students ont the bus ranged from pre-school to high school. The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 90 at 74th Street.

The Jaws of Life was needed to free Cunningham from the wreckage. Authorities said he was wearing a seat belt.
