— GREENSBURG, Ind. — An Indiana man discovered the hard way that lottery winners don’t just hand out money to strangers.
When David B. Ammons pulled into a truck stop parking lot he was told a man who claimed to be a big lottery winner was passing out cash to strangers behind the building.
For a moment that did appear to be the case as he witnessed five or six men in a circle, and one man was giving away money.
When Ammons approached, the man with the cash allegedly said, “Prove to me that you are not broke and I will give you some money too.”
When Ammons pulled out his money, estimated at a couple of hundred dollars, one man grabbed it as two others pushed him to the side.
Two men fled and a third entered the restaurant. When sheriff's deputies arrived, they discovered Lawrence Kenney, 48, hiding in a restroom. He was identified by Ammons and arrested.
