BLAND, Va. —
One person has died in a single-vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer in Bland County.
According to a spokesperson with the Virginia State Police, the accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. near the 56 mile marker on Interstate 77 in Bland County. The shoulder and one lane of the northbound lane on I-77 have been closed.
A Virginia State Police trooper on the scene confirmed one person died in the crash. The tractor trailer was hauling brick from Ohio. The name of the driver, who has been identified, was being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
Sgt. Scott Todd of the Virginia State Police said the driver was a 40-year-old white male from Ohio.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Northbound traffic on Interstate 77 has been slowed beginning at the Bland exit due to the crash.
