BLUEFIELD —
A tsevere thunderstorm watch, high wind warning and flood watch have all been issued for parts of the region by the National Weather Service.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 4 p.m. this afternoon for Mercer, Wyoming, McDowell and Monore counties. A flash flood watch is in effect from noon today until this evening for Tazewell, Bland, Giles, Wythe, and Mercer counties. And a high wind warning remains in effect until midnight for Mercer, Tazewell, Bland and Wythe counties. A tornado watch posted this morning for Buchanan and Dickenson counties has now been lifted.
A powerful storm system is moving into the region from the upper Ohio Valley. The main threat of the storm system is heavy rain, damaging winds and the possibility of tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.
The rain will change to snow late tonight with minor snow accumulations expected into Friday.
