AFTERNOON UPDATE: Tazewell Board of Supervisors approve funding to keep Bluefield, Va. Rescue Squad operational

TAZEWELL, Va. — The Tazewell County Board of Supervisors agreed Tuesday to contribute up to $7,500 to the Buefield, Va. Rescue Squad to keep the unit operational and to help offset financial shortfalls the squad may have in their payroll over the next 60 days.

The emergency motion comes only hours before the announced closure of the rescue squad. The motion was made by Eastern District Supervisor Charlie Stacy, seconded by Northern District Supervisor Tom Brewster, and approved unanimously.

According to the agreement, the squad must meet a number of conditions in order to receive the county funding, including agreeing to fully disclose to the county and the town of Bluefield all financial records, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, employee wages and other financial records as needed. The squad must also agree to prepare a short term and long term operational and financial plan and submit it to County Administrator Jim Spencer and Bluefield, Va. Town Manager Mike Watson by the end of the 60 day period.
