Jimmy Darrell McReynolds

CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — Jimmy Darrell McReynolds, age 71, of Cedar Bluff, Va., died Friday, February 5, 2010 at his home.

He was born June 19, 1938 at Tazewell County, Va. and was a son of Blanche Patterson McReynolds of Dix Creek, Va. and the late Melvin McReynolds.

Mr. McReynolds was a 1956 graduate of Tazewell High School. He was a retired United States Navy Veteran, having served honorably in the Vietnam War. During his twenty years of service, Mr. McReynolds received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, the MUC award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Dominican Republic), Navy Commendation Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal. He was a member of the American Legion. Upon retiring from the Navy, Mr. McReynolds continued to serve his community as a police officer, retiring from the Town of Tazewell Police Department. He had also worked for the Richlands Police Department and the Tazewell County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of the Lake Witten Worship Center in Tazewell, Va.

Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Brenda Stevenson McReynolds; one son, James Darrell McReynolds and wife, Debbie of Damascus, Va.; one stepson, Wesley Perkins of Cedar Bluff, Va.; one stepdaughter, Tania Hess and husband, Rick of Bandy, Va.; one sister, Donna Crisp and husband, Ellis of Dix Creek, Va.; four brothers, Eugene McReynolds of Dix Creek, Va., Dennis McReynolds and wife, Sandra of Tazewell, Va., Jerry McReynolds and wife, Doris of North Tazewell, Va., and Buddy McReynolds of Graham, N.C.; four grandchildren, Calin Hess, Zakary Hess, Takeesha Musick, and Billie Jean Perkins; one great-granddaughter, Shayona Musick; several other loving family members and friends.

Funeral services for Jimmy Darrell McReynolds will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Reverend Ray Justice and the Reverend Adam Frye officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, Va., where military graveside rites will be conducted by members of the Barns-Beavers VFW Post # 7136 in Tazewell, Va. The family will receive friends at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell, Va. after 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2010.
