Joe Lee Carter
BLUEFIELD, Va. — Joe Lee Carter, 75, of 329 Triangle Road, Bluefield, Va., died Thursday December 31, 2009 at his home.
Born October 13, 1934 in Bluefield, W.Va., he was a son of the late T. W. and Ruby Lee Buttrey Carter. Mr. Carter had been a lifelong resident of Bluefield and was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Carter was retired from Bluefield Supply Company and was the owner of Carter Sales. He was known for his great sense of humor and he enjoyed football and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joe Carter, Jr.; and one sister, Charlotte Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi Carter of the home; one daughter, Anna Carter of Burlington, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Pam Johnson and her husband Darryl of Princeton, W.Va.; three sisters, Fern Lineberry of Bluefield, W.Va., Tommie June Johnson of South Hampton, Pa. and Priscilla “Cookie” Denny and her husband Hershel of California; stepgrandchildren, Brad Johnson, Nicole Johnson and Daniel Johnson; one stepgreat-granddaughter, Hayleigh Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Saturday evening, January 2, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday January 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Ministers Duane Wall and Jerry Buckner officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park where family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family requests that memorial contributions, if desired, be made to the American Cancer Society, 1808 Jefferson St., Bluefield, W.Va., or to the American Heart Association, 162 Court Street, Charleston, WV 25301.
