Walter Eugene (Gene) Perdue

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Walter Eugene (Gene) Perdue, 76, of Double Gates, Bluefield, Va., died Monday, Dec. 28, 2009 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

He was a son of the late Walter J. and Eula Bowling Perdue and was a life long resident of Bluefield, W.Va. and Bluefield, Va.

Walter retired from (N&W; - N&S;) Railroad after 40 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed playing golf and enjoying his special granddaughter, Ann Gray. He was a charter member of the Fincastle Presbyterian Church, of which he served his church as Elder/Deacon. Walter was previously a member of Bluefield Elks, Fincastle Country Club and Brotherhood of Railroad Teamsters Union. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Richard Perdue and Edward Melvin.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlotte Caudill Perdue; son, Barry E. Perdue and wife Natalie of Bluefield, Va.; and granddaughter, Ann Gray Perdue of Bluefield, Va.; three nephews; and one niece.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with the Rev. Jim Hendrickson, the Rev. Alan Hammond, and the Rev. Ray Amos officiating. Entombment will follow in the Grandview Mausoleum. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be men of Fincastle Presbyterian Church.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Fincastle Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 409, Bluefield, VA 24605.
