POUNDING MILL, Va. — Mr. Roger Lee Hess, age 67, of Pounding Mill, Va., passed away Friday, December 11, 2009 in a Richlands, Va. hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Buchanan County and was the son of the late Jonas and Nola Marie Coleman Hess.
He had made his home in the Buchanan County area most of his life before moving to Tazewell County thirteen years ago. He was a disabled miner having worked for Harman Mining Co. in Grundy, Va. He was a member of the Free Pentecostal Church of God in Red Ash, Va.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Joann Hess.
Survivors are his wife, Sylvia Baldwin Hess; one daughter, Olagay Looney and husband, Duane of Grundy, Va.; one son, Roger Daniel Hess and wife, Sandy of Pounding Mill, Va.; two sisters, Helen Burks and husband, Junior of Hopewell, Va., Donna Lowe and husband, Junior of Belfast, Va.; one brother, Bob Hess and wife, Helen of Tennessee; one special uncle and friend, J.R. Coleman; one special granddaughter, Bethaney Ramey.
Funeral services for Roger Lee Hess will be conducted Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va. with the Rev. Mike Roberts and the Rev. Billy Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Shawn Roberts, Wayne Shortridge, Rodney Coleman, Earl Casey, Jerry Smith, and George Harrison. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Whitt, John Baldwin, Bobby Joe Earls, Duane Looney, and Clyde Perkins.
