SKYGUSTY — Cloteen McClure, 75, of Skygusty, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2009 in Bowers Hospice House in Beckley. She had endured a terminal illness for the past two years.
Born October 13, 1934 in Caretta, she was the daughter of the late Chester Hicks and Mary Ramey Hicks. She was a homemaker, and had been a former factory worker, cashier and file clerk.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Mary Ann McClure; three brothers, Cecil, Ival and Sheldon Hicks; and a sister, Beatrice Neace.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Howard V. McClure of Skygusty; five children, Freida M. Harmon of Lake Norman, N.C., Linda S. Pauley of Culpepper, Va., Allen L. McClure of Brushfork, Howard D. McClure of Bluefield, and Nathan W. McClure of Tazewell, Va.; one sister, Ethel Goodyear; and 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Her close cousin, Ineace Reed of Berwind was considered her best friend and “adopted sister.”
Cloteen was a woman of great religious faith. She enjoyed reading her bible, singing gospel music and praying with others. She would attend church services whenever her health permitted. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, December 9 at 12 p.m. in My Father’s House Church in Berwind with the Revs. Randall Campbell and Kathleen Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in Brewsterdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the church Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
