Charles F. Carter

BLUEFIELD — Charles F. Carter, age 56, of Edgemont Drive (P.O. Box 551), Bluefield, W.Va., passed away on Friday, December 4, 2009 at a Bluefield hospital.

Born on August 18, 1953 in Bluefield, he was a son of the late Alfred S. and Phyllis M. Smith Carter. He had been a resident of Bluefield for most of his life and attended the Midway Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ovie L. Hurst and Mary Hurst Proffitt; paternal grandparents, A.S. and Elsie Carter; and brother, Stanley S. Carter, Sr.

Survivors include his brothers, Franklin Smith and wife Aileen of Bennettsville, S.C., Steven Carter of Virginia; sister, Lisa Carter of Virginia; stepfather, Franklin Smith; loving niece and caregiver, Sherry Perdue and husband Richard, with whom he made his home; nieces, Mary Smith and husband Ron of Fairfield, Va., Michele Hilton and husband Chad of Bennettsville, S.C., Tonya Norton and husband Chris of McColl, S.C.; nephews, SSG Stanley S. Carter, Jr. and wife Michelle of Ft. Hood, Texas, Major John F. Carter of Ft. Knox, Ky.; sister-in-law, Shirley “Big Sister” Harless of Virginia; numerous great-nieces and nephews; special friends, Jason Blankenship, Danny Sarver, Lori, Ron and Carolyn; many other family and friends who loved and cherished Charles deeply with all their hearts.

Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, December 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Bluefield with Minister Dan Webb and Danny Sarver officiating. Burial will follow.

Friends may call from 12:30 - 1:00 p.m. at the cemetery.
