Violet W. Jones
RICH CREEK, Va. — Violet W. Jones, age 88, of Rich Creek, Va. passed away at the home of her daughter in Shallotte, N.C., Sunday, November 29, 2009. Born February 24, 1921 at Mercer County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edward A. and Cora Tankersley Alexander. Violet was of the Christian faith and loved to embroider. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lee Jones.
Survivors include one son, Thomas L. Jones, Jr. and wife Anne of Gate City, Va.; three daughters, Nina Himes and husband John of Mattaponi, Va., Mary Ann Harrell of Shallotte, N.C. and Donnie Thomas and husband Jack of Matoka, Va.; four grandchildren, Kenneth Lee and wife Kristina, Carla Ford and husband Daniel, James Cody Harrell, Tracy S. Grubbs and Scott Shell, and Thomas L. Jones, III; nine great-grandchildren, Kendra, Kailyn Lee and Tyler Ford, Robert L., Jr., C.J. and Destiny Grubbs, Ryan Tavenner, Caleb Thomas Shell, Faith Allen and Angel Anannette Jones; and one sister, Wanda Glenn of Gastonia, N.C.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home with Barry Harper officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, Va. Friends may call from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, December 4, 2009 at the funeral home.
