Avis Lillian McCarty Windon

LEXINGTON, N.C. — Avis Lillian McCarty Windon, 74, of Ed Rickard, Lexington, N.C., formerly of Peterstown, departed this life Tuesday afternoon at the Hospice House of Davidson, in Lexington, N.C.

Born August 27, 1935, in Princeton, she was the daughter of the late Forrest Hazelwood and Hallie Nelson Hazelwood.

Mrs. Windon was a former employee for the Denmar Hospital in Hillsboro.

Mrs. Windon was of the Baptist faith and loved to work puzzles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Franklin McCarty; along with three siblings, Randall Hazelwood, Nancy Clemons, Edward Hazelwood and Dale Hazelwood.

Survivors: Seven children and spouses, Vickie and Don Lawrence of Princeton, Ricky Neal of Ronceverte, Bryant Keith McCarty of Hays, N.C., Drema Darlene and Daniel Lewis, Edith Kay and Craig Scott, all of Lexington, N.C., Roger Dale and Tammy McCarty of N. Wilkesboro, N.C., Billy Joe and Jeannette McCarty of Hays, N.C.; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Jean Hazelwood of Princeton.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2009 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Dana Hazelwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Elgood Cemetery in Elgood. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.

The Ghost Riders Motorcycles Club will serve as pallbearers.
