CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — Mack Rife, age 82, of the Steelesburg section of Cedar Bluff, Va., passed away Thursday, November 19, 2009 in a Richlands, Va. hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Leemaster, Va. and was the son of the late Tom and Pinkie Hurley Rife.
He had made his home in the Richlands area most of his life and was a former sales manager for McGlothlin, Inc. and was the former president of Raven Smokeless Coal Company. He was an Elder in the Church of Christ and was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Erma Childress. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors are his wife, Clara Sword Rife; one daughter, Shirley Rife Harmon and husband, Fred of Tazewell, Va.; one son, Tom W. Rife of Cedar Bluff, Va.; two grandchildren, Tracey McDaniels and Keith Lutz, also survive.
Funeral services for Mack Rife will be conducted Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va. with the Elders of the Cliffield Church of Christ, Keith Matney and Tom Shifflett officiating. Interment will follow at Russell Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon, Va. Pallbearers will be Lucky Bunn, Tim Matney, Wayne Lester, Bobby Matney, Danny Matney, and Jody Woosley. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Boardwine, Mike McGlothlin, L.Z. Claustro, M.D., and Sharif Shoukry, M.D. Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va.
