BLACKSBURG, Va. — Virgil Christian, age 62, of Blacksburg, Va. passed away Friday, November 13, 2009 at his home. Born September 23, 1947 at Gilbert, W.Va. he was the son of the late Mose and Polly Roberts Christian. Virgil was a retired coal miner for the Powtan Coal Company. He was a great father, a best friend and had a heart of gold. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Triston Lee Harrison.

Survivors include daughter, Merlin Carter and husband Randy; son, Randall Christian; daughter, Meranda Christian; son, Matthew Christian and wife Rebecca and their children, Kayla and Madison; daughter, Samantha Lynn Christian and her children, Jonathan Reynolds and Dustin Crisp; son, Virgil Lee Lester; daughter, Sabrina Lynn Christian and her children, Geronica Roark, Shyanne Gillespie and Nokoa Muncy; daughter, Kissy Jo Harrison and husband Eddie Dean, Jr. and their children, Alexander Dean, Christian Lee and Emily Jean; daughter, Angel Dawn Cody and husband Chris and their children, Isaiah, Ethan, and Isabella; son, Mose Christian II and wife Anna and their child, Alyssa; great-grandchild, Lexi Jean Reynolds; two brothers, Vanoe and Vernal Christian; and two sisters, Versie Christian and Vidie Berry.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., today, November 16, 2009 at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown, W.Va. with the Rev. Archie Salmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Memorial Gardens, Lindside, W.Va. Friends called, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the funeral home.
