Gary Norman “Maytag” Shrader

CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — Gary Norman “Maytag” Shrader, age 59, of Cedar Bluff, Va., passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009. Born January 12, 1950 in Buchanan County, Va., he was the son of the late Isaac Henry “Hank” and Beulah Faye White Shrader of Cedar Bluff, Va.

Gary was president of Shrader's, Inc. of Richlands and worked his entire career in the family owned and operated business. He was a 1968 graduate of Richlands High School and Southwest Virginia Community College. Gary was also a charter member of both the General William Campbell Chapter Sons of the American Revolution headquartered in Abingdon, Va. and The Brown-Harman Nighthawks Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Gary is survived by his wife of 30 years, Susie Stevenson Shrader of Cedar Bluff; one son, Kevin Taylor of Kennebunk, Mass.; one stepson, Richard Connor and his wife, Tammy of Claypool Hill; one stepdaughter, Stephanie Hickman and her husband, Wendell of Elizabethton, Tenn.; two grandson; five stepgrandsons; and three stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Smith and her husband, John Henry of Rosedale.

Graveside rites will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. with the Rev. Carl Howell, pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church of Claypool Hill. Pallbearers will be David Hare, Andy Smith, John Henry Smith, Mike Stevenson, Wayne Stevenson, Jared Lyons and Ben Lyons. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:00 a.m.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Va.
