Clyde J. Stiltner

THOMPSON VALLEY, Va. — Clyde J. Stiltner, age 75, of Thompson Valley, Va. passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Tazewell Community Hospital in Tazewell, Va. Born January 22, 1934 at Buchanan County, Va., he was a son of the late Annon and Carrie Mullins Stiltner. He was a family man who liked to stay close to home and he enjoyed watching Nascar and baseball. Mr. Stiltner was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Childs - Gentry VFW Post # 7360 of Grundy, Va. He had worked as a coal miner with Harman Mining. He was of the Protestant faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Stiltner and Lonnie Stiltner.

Survivors include two sisters, Flora J. Ratliff of Thompson Valley, Va., and Geraldine “Maggie” Browning and husband, Ernest of Bluff City, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Clyde J. Stiltner will be conducted at 12:00 noon Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Rev. Barry Absher officiating. Burial will follow at the Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va., where military graveside rites will be conducted by members of the Childs-Gentry VFW Post #7630 of Grundy, Va. Pallbearers will be Johnny Ratliff, Malcolm Browning, Chris Browning, Matt Colley, Leon Stiltner, and Paul Stiltner. Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Stiltner and Darren Anderson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2009.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
