JOLO — Clarence Emory Beavers, 91, of Jolo, W.Va., went to be with our Lord early Monday morning, November 2, 2009 at his residence following a long illness.
Clarence was born August 10, 1918 in Bradshaw, W.Va., a son of late James Robert and Rosa Mae McCoy Beavers. He was a retired coal miner, a member and Deacon of the Church of Christ at Jolo, a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II, and a member of the American Legion Post # 175, and the V.F.W. Post #8413. He was the last surviving member of his original family, and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Dora Beavers Davis, Nellie Jane Beavers Hale, and Julia Beavers Short; six brothers, Otis, Frank, George, Johnny, Henry, and Robert “Bob” Beavers; and one son-in-law, Vester Washington Vance.
Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Ida Baker Beavers of the home; three daughters, Maxine Beavers Webb and husband William of Martinsbille, Va., Patsy Ann Beavers Vance and husband Glen of Beartown Mountain, Betty Lou Beavers Christian Vance of Castlewood, Va.; two sons, Noah Clarence Beavers and wife Vickie Jones Beavers of Dunkirk, Ind., Johnnie Eugene Beavers of Jolo and wife Jancie Beavers of Coalwood; twelve grandchildren, Charles Vance and wife Tenia Collins Vance of Jolo, Kenneth Vance and wife Hope Viars Vance of Beartown, William Vance and wife Erin Horne Vance of Princeton, Yvonne Webb Harris and husband Scott Harris of Ridgeway, Va., Lisa Webb Wall and husband Bruce Wall of Bassett, Va., Toni Beavers Ward of Dunkirk, Ind., Elizabeth Beavers McIlwain and husband Brandon of Jacksonville, Fla., Marcus Christian and wife Leigh Addair Christian of Bland, Va., David Christian and wife Lori Coomes Christian of Princeton, Johnnie Beavers, Jr. of Wytheville, Va., Joshua Beavers of Radford, Va., and Justin Beavers of Jolo, W.Va.; seventeen great-grandchildren, Rocky Vance and wife Danielle Payne Vance of Jolo, Ashley Vance Hagerman and husband Jeffery Hagerman of Rockridge, Tyler Vance and Timothy Vance, both of Jolo, Amber Vance and Heather Vance, both of Beartown, Rylee Vance, Logan Vance and Drew Reed, all of Princeton, Mason Christian and Patrick Christian, both of Bland, Va., Joseph Harris and Ethan Harris both of Ridgeway, Va., Matthew Ward and Marissa Ward both of Dunkirk, Ind., Alyssa and Kira Christian, both of Princeton; one great-great-grandson, Connor Vance of Jolo; and a host of nieces and nephews. Additional survivors include Patricia Mitchell Beavers Suthers, the mother of Joshua, Justin, and Johnnie, Jr. Beavers, and Tiny Jean Kennedy Vance Cline, the mother of Rocky and Tyler Vance.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Jimmy Justus and the Reverend Herman Day officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger. Burial will follow in the Atwell Cemetery on Atwell Mountain, Atwell, W.Va. where military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #175 and the V.F.W. Post # 1144. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and Jack Scott.
Friends may visit with the family at the family Tuesday evening, November 3, 2009 from 6 to 9 p.m.
