Henry Jess Luttrell

CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — Henry Jess Luttrell, age 85, of Cedar Bluff, Va., died Saturday, October 31, 2009 at his home.

He was born September 24, 1924 to the late Henry and Lura Repass Luttrell.

Jess was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran having received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was a draftsman and building contractor, retiring with a military disability in 1972.

Jess served as an elder in the Cedar Bluff Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, and all activities that revolved around his wife and family.

Survivors are: His wife of 60 years, Marian Flanary Luttrell; daughter, Kathy French and husband, Zed of Stanardsville, Va.; two sons, John Luttrell of Chesapeake, Va., Mark Luttrell and wife, Sharon of Melbourne, Fla.; grandchildren, Zee French, Andrea French, Jessica French, Meredith Luttrell, Samantha Luttrell, Tyler Luttrell, Matthew Luttrell, Andrew Luttrell. Landry and Presley French were the first of the next generation to call him their Great Granddaddy; one sister, Nell Lee and husband Richard of Cedar Bluff, Va. Many other special nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and in-laws on both sides of the family also survive.

Funeral services for Henry Jess Luttrell will be conducted Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Eddie Nash officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Va. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va. Members of Casey Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites.
