George Washington West, Jr.

CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — George Washington West, Jr., age 89, of Cedar Bluff, Va., passed away Friday, October 30, 2009 in a Tazewell, Va. hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Tazewell County and was the son of the late George W., Sr. and Dora Ethel Beavers West.

He had made his home in the Cedar Bluff area all of his life and was a former truck driver and farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nannie Clara West; six sisters, Dorothy West, Jewell Raines, Velma Pauline Lowe, Clara Jane Milligan, Bertha Frances West, and Marian Cope Benfield; and six brothers, Thomas, Earl, Dewey, Charles, Bob, and Bill West.

Survivors are: Two sons, Bob West and wife, Alicia of Cedar Bluff, Va., George W. West, III of the home; one brother, Jim West and wife, Deloris of Tazewell, Va.; one granddaughter, Chelsea Lynne West.

Funeral services for George W. West, Jr. will be conducted Monday, November 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va. with the Rev. Sam Alitzer, the Rev. Marvin Nipper, and the Rev. Paris Shelton officiating. Entombment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Va. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va.
