Billy Ray Ward

GRUNDY, Va. — Billy Ray Ward, age 66, of Grundy, Va., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2009 at his home.

Born March 30, 1943 in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Lummie and Julia Montgomery Ward. He was a disabled coal miner, having worked for Jewell Smokeless Company. He was a member of the Slate Creek Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Grundy Baptist Church and the YMCA. Billy was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Samuel Kiser and Joseph Reid Kiser.

Survivors: His wife, Mary Elswick Ward, Grundy, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Renee) Stiltner, Grundy, Va., Mrs. Mark (Tonya) Kiser, Bristol, Va.; one son, Kevin Ray Ward and wife Teresa, Flower Branch, Ga.; grandchildren, Alex and Madison Stiltner, Weston and Sophia Kiser, Cassie and Nicola Ward, and Kristen Gills; one sister, Mavis Jean Adkins, Grundy, Va.

Funeral services for Billy Ray Ward will be held Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grundy Baptist Church at Grundy, Va. with Donald Tittle, Dennis Wimmer and Bobby McGraw officiating with burial to follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday evening at the church where a service will be held at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be men of the Grundy Baptist Church, members of the Slate Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Buford Stacy, Sonny Foster, Dennis Wimmer, Rodney and Tim Lee, Earl Compton, and brothers-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Grundy Baptist Church, P.O. Box 675, Grundy, VA 24614.

Virginia Funeral Home of Grundy, Va. is in charge of arrangements.
