Thomas Paul Goodson

DAVY — Thomas Paul Goodson, age 92, of Davy, peacefully departed this life in the comfort of his home, Thursday, October 22, 2009. Born July 4, 1917, in Davy, he was the son, of the late James Wanless Goodson and Mae Jarrett Goodson Bailey.

He was a graduate of Welch High School and National School of Meat Cutting, Inc. in Toledo, Ohio. He was a co-owner and butcher at the former Goodsons' Store in Davy. He later retired from the Goodsons' Supermarket in Welch, where he was affectionately known as "Uncle Paul." He was a life long resident Davy and a member of the former Davy Lions Club. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Davy, the church choir and served in various capacities within the church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Olen W. Blankenship; one sister, Dorothy G. Beavers; and one brother, Dr. Roy Goodson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Hazel Straley Goodson; three daughters, Paula Blankenship of Rupert, Sue Williams and husband, Richard of Kimball, and Mary Kay Amey and husband Geoffrey of Winter Park, Fla.; one brother, Wanless Goodson and wife, Margaret of Welch; one sister-in-law, Rita Goodson of Silver Springs, Md.; five grandchildren, Paul Blankenship and wife, Jo Lynn of Cross Lanes, Tonya Walls and husband, Erich of Indiana, Pa., Sarah Hoke and husband Jamie of Ronceverte, Nicholas Williams and wife, Amanda of Morgantown and Jason Amey of Florida; eight great-grandchildren, Zachary and Amber Blankenship, Trevor, Cameron, and Maiya Walls, Hayden Hoke, Conner Williams and Caysen Amey; two stepgrandchildren, Yvonne Amey and Glen Amey; several nieces and nephews; as well as several devoted caregivers, Donna, Dawn, Peggy, Michelle, Ann, Mary and Vicki.

A service celebrating the life of Thomas Paul Goodson will be conducted Monday, October 26, 2009 at 1 p.m. from the Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in Welch with the Rev. Brian Long and Pastor Jeff Beckett, officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at the funeral home, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Paul Blankenship, Nicholas Williams, Erich Walls, Jamie Hoke, Jerry Goodson, Don Goodson and Jeff Goodson. Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Mullins, Ronald Parks and former co-workers from Goodsons' Supermarket.
