Kelvin (Stick) Jay Thompson

HARDY, Va. — Kelvin (Stick) Jay Thompson, age 49, of Hardy, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 in Philadelphia, Pa. at the Cancer Center of America.

Born on July 30, 1960, in Mullens, W.Va., he was a son of Clinton and Rita Thompson of Brushfork, W.Va. Kelvin was a 1978 graduate of Bluefield High School and was employed as a transmission lineman for American Electric Power (AEP) for 20 years. Kelvin enjoyed playing sports all through High School and after graduation played softball for Andy Clark Ford in the Bluefield, W.Va. league. Kelvin was a devoted WVU fan and enjoyed attending many of their games with his wife Tammy.

Survivors: Parents, Clinton and Rita Thompson of Brushfork, W.Va.; wife, Tamara Lynn Thompson of the home; daughter, Nichole Thompson Long and husband Scotty; grandson, Dylan Jay Long; stepdaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Greer and Stephanie Greer; stepgrandchildren, Alaina and Ashlyn; brothers, Kenny Thompson and wife Gay, Melvin Thompson and wife Kim, Boe Thompson, Charlie Thompson, Rodney Thompson; sisters, Janie Powell and husband Richard, Kathy Roberts and husband Ron; nieces, Melissa, Sarah, Samantha, Courtney, Danielle, and Tori; nephews, Jason, Cameron, Chris, Hunter, and Chase.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Oakey's Chapel in Roanoke, Va.

Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. the same day at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, W.Va.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 23, 2009 from 6-9 p.m. at Oakey's Chapel in Roanoke, Va. Their phone number is 540-997-3909.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
