GARY — Woodrow Wilson Broomfield, age 92, of McDowell Nursing and Rehab Center, Gary, W.Va., formerly of Maybeury, W.Va., went to be with the Lord late Wednesday night, Oct. 14, 2009 at Welch Community Hospital after a long illness. Born June 17, 1917 in McDowell County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert Broomfield and Mary Lambert Rose. He was affiliated with the Protestant faith, was a retired coal miner, a former employee for the Town of Kimball, and was a resident of McDowell County most of his life. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Rose Broomfield; two infant sons; two daughters, Nancy Broomfield and Sylvia White; two brothers, Elmer Broomfield and an infant brother; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
He is survived by eight sons, Paul Broomfield and wife Elizabeth of Long Wood, Fla., Christy Broomfield of Cleveland, Ohio, Jimmy Broomfield and wife Lillian of Sanford, Fla., Roger Broomfield of Sanford, Fla., Johnny Broomfield and wife Susan of Maybeury, W.Va., Dickie Broomfield and Lucille of Bluefield, W.Va., Jackie Broomfield and wife Carolyn of Maybeury, W.Va., Buster Broomfield of Sanford, Fla.; four daughters, Sarah Graham of Martinsburg, W.Va., Mary Hall of Bluefield, W.Va., Goldie Hicks of Bluefield, W.Va., Wanda Harrison and Henry Collins of Bastian, Va.; 51 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and five great-great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Widener Funeral Home Chapel, Northfork, W.Va. with the Rev. Ronald Felts officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell, W.Va. Friends may call Sunday night from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
