MANASSAS, Va. — Joseph (Joe) Allen Williams, age 79, died Monday, October 12, 2009.
Joe was born in Elkhorn, W.Va. September 5, 1930 to the late George and Naomi Pickett Williams. He was a graduate of Elkhorn High School class of 1948 and really enjoyed attending the EHS Alumni Association reunions held yearly. He served in the Korean Conflict in the 8th Army rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant in 18 months. He managed several of the top furniture stores in the area including Kimels, Waring and Gillows, Fairfax and Barnes Furnitures. He was a member of Manassas Baptist Church and the Three Quarters Club. Joe loved his church and especially gospel music.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Margie Williams Hurst; brothers, William (Bill), Clarence (Punk) and Roy Williams; brother-in-law, James Chumley; and son-in-law, Thomas Soltow.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Bettie Broomfield Williams, the loves of his life; daughter Tina Soltow and companion Keith Kindel and son Douglas Williams and wife Camille who blessed him with two wonderful grandchildren, Katie and John Williams. He is also survived by his brother, George Williams and wife Ida Lou of Shawsville, Va.; sister, Hazel Chumley of Oxon Hill, Md.; sisters-in-law, Mildred Williams of Shawsville, Va., Helen Williams of Bluewell, W.Va., and Phyllis Wagner of Lincoln, Neb.; brother-in-law, Charles Hurst of Bluefield, W.Va.; 11 nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, Va. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Manassas Baptist Church, 8800 Sudley Road, Manassas with Dr. William T. Higgins officiating. Interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas.
