Robert Nelson Woods

BLUEFIELD — Our beloved Robert Nelson Woods, of Bluefield passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 22, 2009 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. He was born in Keystone, W.Va. on July 24, 1913 to the late Christopher and Nancy Woods.

Mr. Woods graduated from Genoa High School. He was a hotel Bellman for most of his life, until he was severely disabled due to a fire. Unable to work, Mr. Woods became an entrepreneur.

He is survived by his beloved longtime companion, Geneva Olds; daughter, Cecelia (Dwight, Jr.) Palmer; three grandsons, Corey (Diana) Patterson, Shannon (Mae) Patterson, and Jonathan Patterson; three great-grandchildren, Janiya Patterson, Jamira Patterson, and Jeshaun Patterson, all of Bluefield, W.Va.

Mr. Woods was the caring father to Lillie (Ann) Olds and Queenie (Tony) Johnson; caring grandfather to seven grandchildren; and caring great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters, Hazel Byard of Charlotte, N.C., and Dr. Rebecca Boyd of Columbus, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Robert Woods, Jr., grandson, Donald Woods; caring daughter, Michelle Tiller; five brothers, Otis, Patrick, Benjamin, Vernal, and Nathaniel Woods; four sisters, Margaret Parker, Thelma Gray, Christine Todd, and Princine Edwards.

Memorial Service will be held at J. H. Easley Tabernacle, 109 Henderson St., Princeton, W.Va. Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 12:00 noon with Elder McKinley Price officiating. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Littlesburg Rd., Bluewell, W.Va.

Arrangements entrusted to McConnell Funeral Home of Bluefield.
