BECKLEY —
A state Department of Commerce spokeswoman says a coal miner has died after being hit by a scoop at a mine in Raleigh County.
Spokeswoman Leslie Fitzwater says 44-year-old John Myles of Hilltop died Tuesday from his injuries.
She says the accident occurred around 8 p.m. Tuesday night at Pocahontas Coal Co.’s Affinity Mine as Myles was shoveling coal ribs.
It’s the second fatal accident at the mine this month and the fourth mining-related fatality in West Virginia this year.
Forty-three-year Edward L. Finney of Bluefield, Va., was killed at the Affinity Mine on Feb. 7 when a hoist moved unexpectedly as he was pushing a scoop bucket insert full of trash onto it.
